The first all-school Catholic High School Alumni Lawyers Dinner will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011, at Catholic Central High School in Novi. Our guest speaker will be Fr. John Riccardo, Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Plymouth.
This event is open to all Catholic high school alumni lawyers, or lawyers who are spouses of Catholic high school alumni, lawyers who are parents or children of Catholic high school alumni (or students), current Catholic high school students, all members of the legal "industry", in any capacity, who are friends of Catholic education--well you get the idea. All are welcome.
It will be a great chance for people who share many common bonds-legal, religious, educational, to get together in a social setting. It is expected to be a great time to celebrate that which unites us-plaintiff or defendant, bench or bar, Shamrock or Cub, Mustang or Saddlelite.
As the Archdiocese of Detroit does not keep a database of High School Alumni Associations, contacting high schools currently open has been something of a challenge. However, we are casting our net much wider. We want to find graduates of those great high schools that are no longer open. Places like Harper Woods Notre Dame, Benedictine, Immaculata, St. Florian, St. Hedwig, East Catholic, St. Ambrose, Bishop Borgess, Bishop Gallagher, St. Martin de Porres, St. Ladislaus, Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Sorrows, Austin,Salesian and dozens of others.
If you are interested in further information, would like to get involved, or have any contacts with alumni groups of Catholic high schools, open or closed, please contact Mike Butler (Catholic Central '71), at mbutler@twmi.rr.com.
Look for further details, first on this site, and soon in a Facebook group, etc.
A side note. We also need a name for this group trips lightly off the tongue, and better yet, lends itself to a catchy acronym. Currently in the running is "Friends of Catholic High Schools", (FOCHS-pronounceable as FOX). This is nice but lacks the legal connection. "Lawyers of Catholic High Schools", (LOCHS-pronounced LOX) is my personal favorite right now.
