On of the greatest comedy series of all time was the fourth installment of the Blackadder series, called, quite logically, Blackadder Goes Forth. Set during World War I, the series does an excellent job of showing the insanity, inanity and futility of war. In this clip, the writers do a pretty good job on the military justice system as well.
Captain Edmund Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson) finds himself on trial for his life for shooting the commanding general's prize carrier pigeon--and disobeying some orders as well.
You may recognize counsel for the defense as Hugh Laurie, known best on these shores as House. By the way, Mr. Laurie got his start doing farcical roles like George and P. G. Wodehouse's Bertie Wooster.
The English accent is not put on. On the other hand, his American accent in House, is.
To quote Capt. Blackadder in another episode, "Cluck, cluck, jibber, jibber, my old man's a mushroom, etc.
